Mimo Mindful Movement

GERDA MILLER

Director of Mimo
Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor

I would describe myself as passionately curious’ and thrive on learning and sharing knowledge with clients and colleagues, and anybody who wants to be empowered to live an optimal functional life.
I qualified with a B.Sc. (Physiotherapy) from the University of Stellenbosch in 1987 and am also a qualified manipulative therapist (OMT) (University of Stellenbosch 1993) and a qualified Pilates Instructor (essential, intermediate and advanced) Stott Pilates Canada (2001) Reformer and chair equipment (SA) and completed the Post-Graduate Chronic Pain courses at UCT 2018.
I have completed a course as mental and wellness counseling in 2022.

I began my career in private practice at Greenacres (Port Elizabeth) and have been a private practice owner since 1998. From the outset it has been my philosophy not to treat an injury in isolation; but work with my clients holistically. In keeping with this philosophy, I opened a movement studio to compliment my practice in 2002.
By attending numerous courses and lectures over the years, I have further developed this principle in my core interests of orthopaedic, sports rehabilitation and chronic pain issues. This has evolved in a multi-faceted approach to movement therapy as treatment modality, mindfulness and lifestyle changes as rehabilitation tools. My years of clinical experience and a personal journey with chronic pain have led me to develop the MIMO method.
I have always been committed to sharing my knowledge and have on and off been involved with part-time lecturing at the University of Stellenbosch Physiotherapy department. In 2004 I established Healthy Living Education, with a focus on providing educational courses and workshops in movement related therapies for medical professionals and movement therapists. I resigned as director from HLE in 2016 to spend more time on training efforts at my physiotherapy practice and studio.
I believe that ongoing education and growth is key to being a successful therapist as well as a balanced human being. I see my true calling to empower therapists and clients working with me, by sharing my knowledge and experience. I sold my physiotherapy practice to Caryn Meyer in 2021 to be able to put all my focus on Mimo – mindful movement . True to my passion of sharing tools and knowledge I am focussing on building a team of medical and alternative health and wellness professionals that share my vision in order to provide a total holistic approach to health and wellness.
I am committed to give back to my profession and community and am therefore based in my community of Melkbosstrand at Melkbos Movement Studio.

Tracy Williams

Pilates Instructor and Personal Trainer

I began and completed my Pilates mat training in 2008 with Healthy Living Education with Gerda Miller and Colette de Vries. Following this, I did an internship with Gerda Miller for a year learning more about client’s special needs and pathologies. I enjoy the interaction of being part of an interdisciplinary team.

My first love of exercise came from ballet which I started at the age of 4 years old. When I was in high school I participated in gymnastics and my love of exercise continued once she finished school. In 1986, I completed a Fitness and Nutrition Diploma course and taught Aerobics classes for three years. I always knew fitness was my passion and 2008 I started studying to become a Pilates Trainer. Suzanne Hille

Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor

I was born and raised by Dutch parents in the southern suburbs in Cape Town. I revisited my Dutch roots by attending and graduating from the European School of Physiotherapy in Amsterdam in 2011. I quickly returned back to african soil in order to qualify and practice as a physiotherapist within South Africa.

After a lengthy process of board exams, a year of community service at Tonga Hospital in rural Mpumalanga, I was finally able to register with the Health Professional Council of South Africa. Soon after, I returned back to Holland to reunite with my Dutch husband. I gained special interest in management of chronic pain, stress, burnout. I’ve become more aware of the need to balance our physical, mental and emotional well being. This is where my interest in Mindfulness and conscious movement started. I intend to use these skills within my rehabilitation approach. We have recently moved back home to Cape Town and are excited to start this new chapter. I was welcomed by the caring team at Miller & Associates in February 2017, and have enjoyed the diversity and learning opportunities that the practice has offered thus far.
I’ve completed various Pilates mat work courses through APPI (Australian Physio and Pilates Association) and enjoy teaching group rehabilitation classes, as well as 1 on 1 sessions.
I find it essential to transfer knowledge of movement and awareness to my patients and I enjoy guiding them in their rehabilitation process!

MARLIZA VERMEULEN

Physiotherapist

I am a young physiotherapist that grew up in Pretoria and qualified at University of Pretoria in 2017. I spent my community service year in community clinics in the east Rand where I started developing particular interests in neurological rehabilitations as well as paediatrics.

My interest and love for Pilates and movement started while I was studying, at first as a tool to help my patients and give them tailored meaningful exercise and movement options. I soon started enjoying these movement tools   as a personal hobby. I completed my mat course with Basi Pilates in 2016. I am currently working at Miller Myer Physiotherapists and Melkbos Movement studio Melkbosstrand  combing my love for movement and fascination with the working and functionality of the human body to make a difference in the community while keeping up with the latest research in my field of work and all thing movement related.
